Ann Arbor Bus lines going Green?

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

AATA has been a pioneer among transit operators nationwide in pursuing cleaner air. From the late 1980s through 1995, AATA voluntarily converted its entire fleet to a “clean diesel” system using low-sulfur diesel fuel – years ahead of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency directives for federal emissions standards that require buses to meet low-sulfur levels by 2004.

In 2002, AATA became the first transit system in the Midwest to begin using ultra-low-sulfur diesel fuel in all its buses. When coupled with new engine technology, AATA cuts its emissions by as much as 90 percent. Today, AATA buses are significantly cleaner than many other buses and large trucks in the area.

Environmental fugitives get own most-wanted list (repost)

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

WASHINGTON – The government is starting a different kind of most-wanted list — for environmental fugitives accused of assaulting nature.

These fugitives allegedly smuggled chemicals that eat away the Earth’s protective ozone layer, dumped hazardous waste into oceans and rivers and trafficked in polluting cars.

And now the government wants help in tracking them down.

In its own version of the FBI most-wanted list, and the first to focus on environmental crimes, the Environmental Protection Agency is unveiling a roster of 23 fugitives, complete with mug shots and descriptions of the charges on its Web site at http://www.epa.gov/fugitives.

Just a little info on hemp seeds and hemp seed oil, in case you wanted to know.

Hemp seeds have been cultivated since ancient times. They provide a source for complete vegetable protein and, when pressed, yield nutritious, emerald colored oil containing the highest overall essential fatty acid (EFA, or vitamin “F”) content in the plant kingdom in an unsaturated form. Some of the plant’s diverse applications include nutritional, medicinal, cosmetic and industrial use.

Atrazine herbicide, good or bad? Depends on who you ask!

Monday, November 10th, 2008

By: Jason

This is some info on just one of the chemicals that the US is using. I have given you two views, one from each side. You decide who is honest and who is not.

My opening statement…

What is Organic anything anymore? With so many chemicals, pesticides, and herbicides intertwined into our food and water systems what is really truly organic. The genetic makeup of the crops in the farming industry after years of chemicals are showing traces of said chemicals. Scientists are even infusing animal DNA with that of the crop to advance it, even when its been fine for thousands of years. Do they do this because all the chemicals they have used through the years have permanently changed the way said crops grow. Leaving said crop unable to grow the way it should? With it always changing the biological make up of the crop and the insects that feed off of them through years and decades of use. They engineer bigger, stronger, and deadlier herbicides and pesticides to counter act what damage they have already done. Forever changing the soil through degeneration. Forever changing the wildlife through runoff into the water system which effects us all through the food chain and our drinking and bathing water. When is our government going to look in to safer ways to protect or crops and or food supply. The money they save on the way things are done now isn’t worth the horrible aftermath that will undoubtedly effect all of us, our children, and their children. So my hopes are that enough people will be fed up with this process and do something about it.
