ECObulb®PLUS CFL Light Bulbs
ECObulb®PLUS from Feit Electric is not your average compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL). As the first widely available low mercury compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) in the U.S., ECObulb®PLUS not only uses 75% less energy and lasts up to 13 times longer than a standard incandescent bulb, it also contains lower amounts of toxic and hazardous materials thus protecting you and the environment.
Technology is a big step forward in the quest for a cleaner environment. These bulbs contain less hazardous materials and are packaged in recycled paper and recyclable plastic. The reduced levels of harmful materials in these bulbs means less hazardous waste and fewer toxins leech into the soil and poison the environment when disposed of in landfills.
Regular incandescent light bulbs are not energy efficient. Approximately 90% of the electricity consumed is wasted as heat. Due to their high-energy consumption these lamps are not environmentally friendly.
Recycling Your CFL
All 48 components that make up ECObulb®PLUS CFL’s, (including capacitors, transistors, lead-in wires, and solder points) were tested by SGS and found to contain lower levels of harmful materials, including: Cadmium, Lead, Mercury, Hexavalent Chromium, PBBs, and PBDEs. The amount of Mercury in a CFL is extremely small. So small, that all of the Mercury contained in a single CFL can fit into the tip of a pen. The actual average is estimated to be about 3-4 mg. Even so, because CFL’s contain trace amounts of these materials, Feit Electric recommends proper disposal and recycling in order to prevent contaminating our environment.
